Terms of use
The agreement between you and TPS505 Ltd when you use the Milepost iPhone app.
Last updated: 8 October 2026
About these terms
Milepost is made by TPS505 Ltd ("we", "us"), registered in England and Wales, company number 16788028, registered office 244 Desborough Road, Eastleigh, England, SO50 5NH.
These terms apply alongside Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which covers every app on the App Store. By using Milepost you agree to both. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
The free trial
- You can try every feature of Milepost free for 30 days. The trial starts when you choose to start it in the app and lasts 30 days from that day.
- The trial is free. It ends on its own: nothing renews and you won't be charged.
- The trial is available once per Apple Account.
- After the trial, Milepost keeps recording drives, and your trip history and the CSV of all your trips stay available. Classifying new trips, the PDF and CSV mileage logs, past tax years and extra vehicles need the unlock.
The one-time unlock
- The unlock costs £19.99 on the UK App Store, including VAT. It's a single payment, not a subscription.
- It unlocks Milepost on iPhones signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. If you get a new iPhone or reinstall the app, use Settings > Restore purchases in Milepost. It isn't shared through Family Sharing.
- Updates to HMRC's mileage rates come free with app updates, for as long as we offer Milepost on the App Store.
- We may change the price for new buyers. That doesn't affect anyone who has already bought the unlock.
Payment and refunds
Apple takes payment for the unlock and handles all refunds. We can't see your payment or issue refunds ourselves. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account and choose the Milepost purchase. Apple decides refund requests under its own terms.
Milepost isn't tax advice
Milepost helps you keep a record of your business mileage and works out figures at HMRC's published rates. It isn't tax, legal or financial advice. You're responsible for:
- checking that your trips, distances, purposes and classifications are correct before you rely on them;
- deciding which journeys you can claim for. For example, ordinary commuting usually can't be claimed;
- the claims you make to HMRC, and keeping the records HMRC asks for.
Automatic detection depends on your iPhone, its settings and the signals available, so it can miss a drive or measure one inaccurately. You can check for missed trips and edit, split or merge trips in the app. If you're not sure what you can claim, check HMRC's guidance or ask an accountant.
HMRC rates
Milepost's mileage rates come from HMRC's published approved mileage rates on GOV.UK. HMRC can change them. When it does, we aim to update Milepost promptly, but there may be a short delay before an update reaches the App Store. The app shows which version of the rates it's using in Settings.
Use Milepost safely
Don't use your iPhone while driving. Milepost records drives in the background, so you can classify trips once you've parked.
Your data
Your mileage log belongs to you. It's stored on your iPhone and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud account, as explained in our privacy notice. We don't have a copy, so we can't restore it if it's lost. Export your log regularly, and before you delete the app or change iPhone, if you'd be stuck without it.
Our responsibility to you
We make Milepost with reasonable care and skill, and it should match its description on the App Store and this website. If it doesn't, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which these terms don't take away.
Apart from that:
- we're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable when you started using Milepost, or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control, such as iOS, iCloud or App Store problems;
- we're not responsible for tax you overpay or underpay, interest or penalties, or claims HMRC refuses, because you're responsible for checking your records and your claims;
- Milepost is for personal and small-business record keeping. We're not responsible for business losses such as lost profit or lost business opportunities;
- if we're responsible for a loss, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the unlock.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.
Changes to Milepost and these terms
We may update Milepost to improve it, fix problems or keep up with HMRC and iOS changes. We may also update these terms. If a change is significant, we'll say so in the app's update notes, and the date at the top of this page will change.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you want to take legal action, you can do so in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
